REGULATION (EC) No 999/2001 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 22 May 2001 laying down rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies.
Notice: Regarding animal feeding this regulation bans by art. 7 feeding feed material of animal origin and in the Annex IV provides exeptions from this ban and set up rules on feeding of feed material of animal origin.
Anex IV has been changed a couple of times. These changes can be found in regulations (EC) No 1292/2005, reg. (EC) No 956/2008, reg. (EC) No 163/2009, reg. No (EU) 56/2013 and reg. (EU) No 2016/27.
According to regulation (EC) No 999/2001 as amended, the conditions of trade and import of feeds of animal origin depepend on the respective country BSE status. BSE status can be found in the Commision decision 2007/453/EC.
COMMISSION DECISION 2007/453/EC of 29 June 2007 establishing the BSE status of Member States or third countries or regions thereof according to their BSE risk.
The Member states and the third countries are divided into three groups based on their BSE risk:
- Countries or regions with a negligible BSE risk
- Countries or regions with a controlled BSE risk and
- Countries or regions with undetermined BSE risk.
