In accordance with the Act No. 597/2006 Coll. of the Legal Code and 13 Decrees of the government of the Slovak Republic:

The process of approval proceeding makes up a comprehensive system, within which the following interlinked activities are being objectively assessed:
- Application of propagation material for approval proceeding and/or notification of propagation of standard seed,,
- Inspection of propagation stands in accordance with relevant technical requirements,
- Issuance of certificates on inspection,
- Drawing of official seed samples,
- Laboratory assessment of seed quality (purity, germinating capacity, moisture content, weight of 1000 seeds, tetrazolium test and the like),
- Issuance of certificates on approval or disapproval of seed and planting material.
The primary objective of inspections is to assess the genuineness and purity of species and varieties, occurrence of diseases and pests, maintenance of isolation distances to avoid foreign pollination or transmission of virus diseases.
The seed origin, foregoing crop and other circumstances which may have an impact on the quality of the produced seed are being ascertained already at the receiving of the application.
The Institute is member of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) and is authorized to issue international certificates, i.e. documents which give guarantee that the respective seed was adjusted, sampled and tested in compliance with ISTA Rules and the laboratory analysis thereof were carried out in accordance with the uniform ISTA methodology.
Moreover, the Institute participates in the system of variety certification of the international Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) which in the sphere of agriculture of member states and participating countries provides for use of seed of constantly high quality. The primary objective of these activities is to guarantee purity of varieties and species within the framework of individual participant’s schemes.
